Modern Muslims in a Modern World

As Americans from to Presidential frontrunners to people on the street stoke Islamophobia, we’re in danger of losing the understanding that we’re all people – and neighbors, and friends, and family – amid the fear. How does a modern Muslim experience this reality within her everyday life? How is he affected? What do they do to maintain normalcy and sanity within their home and community when ignorance rears its head?

In this Muslim roundtable, Suffolk University’s chaplain Rev. Amy Fisher discusses how such questions intertwine with current events with: Nadeem Mazen, Cambridge City Councilor and founder of community businesses Nimblebot and danger!awesome; Mona Haydar and Sebastian Robins, the married couple behind the “Ask a Muslim” public booth; and Sister Barbara Sahli, an Ed.M. candidate at Harvard who researches the experiences of Muslim youth.

Thursday, April 7, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
